Supernovae and Anti-Gravity

"A universe that came from nothing in the big bang

will disappear into nothing at the big crunch."

Paul Davies

Supernovae are stellar explosions.  Thirty years ago, observations of these events in distant galaxies stunned the scientific community.  Instead of slowing down the expansion of the Universe, which had been taken for granted, the new data suggested just the opposite.

Up to that point, only the force of gravity and the resulting deceleration had been used.  However, if what is observed is an acceleration -and it is- we are faced with an anti-gravity force operating in the sidereal space.

So what?

So the whole Big Bang/Big Crunch theory falls to the ground in the face of a universe in eternal and irreversible expansion.

This is all based on the observation of stellar explosions millions of light-years away, which can ultimately reduce us to the inexorability of the Arrow of Time.

Not for a Buddhist.

For them, the universe is nothing more than a succession of metamorphoses; without a beginning or end.  So radical is the suggestion that the matter/consciousness duality is a false problem, given the reality of their complementarity.

For Buddhists, the very idea of beginnings is inconceivable, and the manifestation of consciousness and matter lies in what they treat as unknowable.

Better than an exploding marble creating everything, right?
