Max Planck

Max Planck

The company's name originates from founder Patrizia Tomasi and her great admiration for the man and physicist Max Planck.

During a meeting at the German Society of Physics, on December 14, 1900, Max Planck presented his article "On the Law of Distribution of Energy in the Normal Spectrum".  The article, which at first attracted little attention, marked the beginning of a revolution in Physics.  The date of its presentation has been considered as the birth of quantum mechanics.

Towards the end of the 19th century, Max Planck suggested that if the radiation within a cavity was in equilibrium with the atoms of the wall of a black body, then there would be a link between the distribution of energy of radiation and the energies from the atoms that compose the cavity.

Planck supposed that the radiant atoms behave as harmonic oscillators and that each atom oscillates at a given frequency v.   From that point onwards, Planck understood that each oscillator can absorb or emit radiant energy in quantities proportional to their frequencies  v.  Hence, it was established that:

E = h v

Where h is a constant of proportionality that Planck supposed unique to all oscillators.

For more than two years, Max Planck tried to prove his own theory wrong, mindful of the revolution his finding would cause to classical physics.  Nevertheless, he did not succeed.

In time: h=6,6256 x 10-34 J.s
